Gambling Laws

Gambling activities in the British Virgin Islands are governed by the Gambling, Lottery and Betting Act.

Under this law, the permitted forms of gambling and the conditions under which it is permitted are determined. Under certain circumstances, lotteries may be permitted, especially for charitable purposes. These are subject to strict regulations and oversight. On the other hand, casino gambling has traditionally been banned in the Virgin Islands. This includes the operation of land-based casinos as well as online casino gaming platforms located within the jurisdiction.

Despite these restrictions, there have been discussions over the past years about the possibility of licensing gambling providers to boost tourism and increase tax rates, but the BVI Gambling Act has not yet entered into force.
